Terms of use

These terms apply between you and Brev (Thomas J.R. Marthinsen) when you request access, create an account or use the service. Brev is a platform for publishing and sending newsletters to subscribers who have consented.

You must be at least 18 (or have parental consent where the law requires it). You must provide a correct email address and keep your password secret. We may close accounts for abuse, spam or breach of these terms.

Access is via waiting list and manual invitation until we open more broadly. There is no right to a place. We may reject or remove users without giving a reason.

You own the text and images you send. You are responsible for ensuring content is lawful, not hateful, not illegally pirated or misleading, and that you may send email to everyone on the list (consent / valid interest under GDPR and marketing law).

You must not import lists you do not own or that have not signed up for your content. Imported subscribers must have valid consent from the previous service.

You must not send bulk email without recipients' consent, phishing, malware, or content that breaks Norwegian law. You must not attempt to bypass technical limits, scrape others' data or disrupt operation.

Brev sends email via a third party (Resend). We include postal address and unsubscribe link as the law requires.

As a writer you accept that sendings you send via Brev may include:

• an invisible 1×1 image that registers whether the email was opened (for statistics on the dashboard);
• rewritten links that register clicks;
• storage of country code on open/click — not full IP.

Statistics are meant as simple feedback («was it opened?»), not marketing analysis. For each sending you can see which subscribers opened the letter and who did not. Open counts may be lower than reality when recipients' email clients do not load images — see the privacy policy.

As a reader you get an explanation at signup and in the confirmation email before the subscription is active. Readers consent to statistics on confirmation (double opt-in).

Pricing plans (The reading circle, The audience) are described on Is Brev for you?. Payment and Stripe are not active yet. For now these terms apply to free/invitation-based use. When payment is introduced, separate pricing and cancellation terms will supplement these.

Brev is under continuous development. We aim for high uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Back up via export under Settings.

Brev is a small service currently offered free or by invitation. We are not liable for indirect loss — for example lost income, lost readers or other consequential damage.

If the law nevertheless gives you a right to compensation for direct loss caused by us, our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid Brev in the twelve months before the event. As long as you have not paid for the service, that amount is zero.

This does not limit rights you have under mandatory law, including gross negligence or intent where the law requires otherwise.

You can delete your publication and data in the Danger zone under Settings. We may suspend or delete accounts for breach. On termination, data in our database is deleted according to the routines in the privacy policy.

We may change these terms. Material changes will be announced via email or in the service. Continued use after notice counts as acceptance unless the law requires otherwise.

Norwegian law applies. Venue Oslo District Court for consumers where mandatory law does not provide otherwise.
